Memorial Day Weekend Recap

I hope you've had a fantastic Memorial Day and a wonderful weekend with loved ones! Before I get too far into this blog post it only feels absolutely essential that I take a moment to say how extremely unworthy I feel to live in this country. I feel humbled to know that so many have sacrificed their lives so that we might receive the privilege of living in freedom. At church on Sunday our pastor shared an inspiring verse:

"No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down their life for their friends." John 15:13

Our little family is winding down from a rather slow and uneventful weekend. We kept things low-key and went to a friend's house for a BBQ and then spent time just enjoying the weather outdoors as a family. Every year around this time we try to get our garden going… typically speaking, we can expect nicer days and fewer chances of frost after Memorial Day – typical for Northern Michigan weather! This summer I'm happy to not be hauling around a big ole basketball of a belly…which makes the up and down, hunched over motions that come with gardening much more enjoyable!

Dusty and I worked on revitalizing the soil and making it more nutrient rich…we turned it over, added compost, manure, soil, and vermiculite.  We hope to plant a whole slew of things this year…we currently have zucchini, pumpkin, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, peppers (bell and hot), cucumbers, eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and some other things started inside. I hope in the next couple of weeks we can transplant them into the garden. We've had a few successful gardens in our past and hope we can continue the trend this year (stay tuned)! Rowan absolutely loves being outside. He is so excited about all of the new animal sounds, smells, and things to watch. And it is SO fun to watch him take it all in. Having a young child is like reliving your own childhood all over again…but through their eyes. I held out a little worm in my hand, Rowan squealed as he watched it wiggle and squirm and "dance" as I told him. I think if I would have let him grab it, he would have eaten it – because….teething.

A BIG thank you to Wayfair for sponsoring this post and allowing us to share our weekend with you! I appreciate you supporting the brands that I work with!
